Strengthening children's resilience through social emotional learning and therapeutic interventions

strengthening children's resilience through social emotional learning

Social Emotional Learning

Mental health is
JUST AS IMPORTANT
as physical health

Just as weight repetitions strengthen muscles, social emotional learning strengthens children's ability to cope with the challenges of life.

Reppin Resilience, LLC was founded to teach children healthy coping skills and empower them to reach their full potential so they can rep resilience at home, school and throughout the community.

What is Social
Emotional Learning?

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which children learn and practice skills to develop:

  • Self-awareness

  • Self-management

  • Social awareness

  • Relationship skills

  • Responsible decision-making

The Benefit of Social
Emotional Learning

Children who lack healthy coping skills are at an increased risk for depression, self-harm, and substance abuse. The COVID-19 pandemic helped to shine a light on the mental health crisis in our country, causing leaders in pediatric health care such as the AAP, CHA, and AACAP to declare a state of emergency in child and adolescent mental health.

     RISK

SEL

Social emotional learning fosters supportive relationships, self-efficacy, self-regulation, and hope. These protective factors build resilience, which provides children with the ability to achieve positive outcomes despite adversity.

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is crucial for young children as it provides a foundation for safe and positive learning, and enhances children's ability to succeed.

Teaching social skills and emotional literacy in a small setting builds emotional intelligence, allowing children to handle everyday situations in a healthy way.

SEL lessons help children learn to manage their emotions, as well as resolve conflicts, show respect, and build healthy relationships. Learning and practicing these skills early and often, is proven to promote mental health and academic success.

Children who participate in SEL programs experience:

  • Improved academic performance and classroom behavior

  • Higher stress-tolerance

  • More positive attitudes about themselves and others

Does insurance cover the cost of a SEL group?

Reppin Resilience, LLC does not accept insurance. All groups are private pay.

Reppin Resilience, LLC's enrichment programs involve teaching skills and strategies (educationally based), and are not individual treatment plans for children. Children will not be working on individual goals, such as IEP goals or behavior plans. Such tools and skills will be general and can be applied to a variety of situations a child may face.

Can my child participate in more than one SEL group?

Yes! Children may participate in more than one SEL group. It is not recommended to take the same SEL group more than once, as the curriculum remains the same.

What happens during the 45 minute group session?

Through the use of books, games, video clips, crafts, and lessons, students have FUN while learning valuable social emotional learning skills. Students also leave with a "take home" note after every class, so that skills and concepts can be reinforced at home.

Does Reppin Resilience, LLC offer therapy for my child?

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) groups offered are not considered a form of therapy. Lessons taught are not individual treatment plans, but rather skill building strategies that can be applied to various situations a child may experience. SEL groups are considered enrichment programs or educationally based lessons. Children who participate will be taught valuable concepts and strategies, and practice coping skills to appropriately manage their emotions and behavior at home, school, and in the community.

Are virtual SEL sessions available?

At this time, Reppin Resilience, LLC only offers in person sessions.

Can I attend the SEL sessions with my child?

Families are not permitted to join the classes with their children. In a group setting, the confidentiality of the other group members must be respected. However, a "take home note/packet" is sent home after every group session. The packet shows skills and strategies taught that day, so that families can reinforce the concepts at home.
